A while back, we switched to using washcloths instead of paper towels and I found that it is another great way to save a little money.
I bought the Utopia Towels Washcloths - 24-Pack (White) which is an excellent deal for a very sturdy washcloth that will last a very, very long time.
I know paper towels aren't too expensive, but maybe I will save about $1000 or so in my lifetime by not using them (and a couple trees, too!)
How we do it:
- We keep a drawer full of washcloths in the kitchen.
- We use the washcloths to clean, wipe and dry everything.
- The towels actually are our sponges too!
- 1 towel can be used to dry hands, wipe counters, to wash dishes, and to clean the floor before washing!
- We keep a glass bowl on the counter to catch all the used washcloths.
- We move the dirty towels to the laundry room each night
- We stuff the clean towels into a drawer and save time by not folding the towels (time is money and nobody is paying you to fold!)
I actually do still buy paper towels to have on hand for certain projects/messes... like dog puke or other disgusting accidents, but a roll lasts me forever because washcloths are much better!
