San Diego Desert No Water Summer Garden Project

Here's the Before picture.

The rock is going to be delivered tomorrow and we are going to finish the front yard with the latest shipment from KRC Rock. I know it sounds weird, but rock is one of the things I don't skimp on. It has been around for a billion years or so, it is going to be around for a million more years. It need no care, love, and will never need to be replaced unless it's aesthetically repulsive.

I don't have to water it, irrigate it, mow it, fertilize it, seed it - it is an eco-dream and it will save me tons in water, maintenance, and time. I will probably still have to weed it. And I'm going to enjoy planting my garden and working in it anyway, but no water!!!

The phase I DIY Front Yard project is growing beautifully with no water.

These guys are about to bloom. This "spiky plant" and almost everything in the garden is succulents from cuttings of a single, original plant or cutting, and just stuck in the ground where we want it to grow. I have spent very little cash on plants for this garden. I cannot stress how easy these plants have been to grow in Southern California.

So in the beginning, all landscaping is essentially FREE!

We usually cannot help but spend a little cash on a special plant or two when we do a new project so I'm very much looking forward to that part...

I hope I didn't creep you out too much with my "before" pics. I can't wait to show my AFTERS!

  1. I love that you're going with a sustainable garden for your front yard. I think it will look great when it's finished.
