We just finished up our vegan food guide for North County San Diego but we also spent a lot of time down in San Diego this past year! Thanks to our sponsor we have an awesome list of some of the BEST places to get vegan food in San Diego! Every place on this list is completely vegan including an all vegan market!
SD is becoming a vegan paradise and is a great place to visit if you want some good, weather and good eats. Whether you plan to travel here or you are local like us, here are some restaurants you don't want to miss!
Here are our Top 5 All Vegan Restaurants in San Diego:
1. Bar Kindred
Bar Kindred is an all vegan bar and restaurant with extraordinary snacks, entrees, desserts. They also have they most beautifully crafted cocktails and marked gluten free options.
This is one of our favorite places for a date night and I do love the heavy metal cats theme, perhaps it isn't for everyone. It is also LOUD so be warned.
Their Deli Battle platter although much prettier when I started going there, has tasty handmade sausage and cheese, the fried pickles are really great, and I love the flatbread, the sandwiches, the risotto, the cauliflower steak... I pretty much have liked everything I tried there.
I even had a French dip last time, which I think is an off-menu item but worth finding out about, and it was delicious! The dessert is also one of my favorites around town.
Kindred also serves brunch but I would consider it more of a bar and not kid-friendly and may not be suitable for their grandparents either.

Word spread quickly about their Mac n cheese when this place opened. Turns out the chef, who has worked for chef Kenney at the amazing Plant Food + Wine (we reviewed last year for New Years!) also won Best Vegan Mac and Cheese from Huffington Post when he was head chef at SunCafe in Studio City. Anyway, the mac and cheese is fantastic as is all the handmade pastas, pizzas, and they also serve brunch here.

3. Anthem Vegan
Three words for this place - vegan comfort food. They have all the sandwiches, burgers, burritos, fried foods, vegan breakfast, and make handmade vegan meats. If you are vegan for the animals but miss the All-American diet food, feed your face here.
Anthem arguably the most kid-friendly food place around is also nut-free. My husband nearly lost his mind with their diner-style stacked deli sandwiches and the kids dug their corn dogs so much that we asked if they could make another a-la-carte since they come on a big kids platter. They also loved their mozzarella sticks.
Every first Friday, they host a social event with exclusively vegan vendors in their parking lot. And, they are about to turn their small market area into a bar to solidify this place as central to the vegan scene if it wasn't already!

Their burritos are GOOD! I've had both the breakfast and another and they are HUGE! |

4. Mission Square Market
I love this place. Not only does it have a fully vegan deli with specialty sandwiches and a build your own sandwich counter, but they are a fully vegan market which carries everything from Just Egg to vegan Blue Cheese. They carry elusive items like the Annie's all vegan frozen Pizza Pockets to meats from the Herbivorous Butcher. I went for the Turkey Club and it was just like the ones I loved from New Jersey diners back in the day. The only thing you have to watch out for at this place is how much you spend but don't feel too bad supporting the first vegan market in San Diego. We are so lucky to have this place.

5. Evolution Fast Food
Before all of these great places came about, right next door to Donna Jean, is one of our favorite vegan fast food places, Evolution. Not only does this place have a buffalo chicken sandwich, a few different burgers and burritos, and desserts, but it has raw food as well. To top it all off it has a drive thru!!! Granted it is not always the fastest drive through around but you can opt to go eat inside if you are not with a car full of kids like I am and I profoundly appreciate not having to get out of the car once in a while for a healthy, filling meal, and a vegan cupcake handed through my car window.
