Beading With Toddlers

Toddlers and beads. Sounds scary, right? As long as you supervise, it can be a fun craft for a 2 year old. I was introduced to beading with toddlers when our good friends showed us how to make a candy cane ornament with white and red pony beads on a chenille stem.

My two year old enjoyed stringing the beads, and with his momma being sometime beading and jewelry making fanatic, we had to hit Michael's right away.

We were so stoked to find sea creatures, animals, cars and train beads. Of course I had to get some metallics and sparkly stars. Then the kid got to work!

I love that there's marker all over his jammies. That's how we roll around here.

This is great activity for developing manual dexterity. We had a playdate with friends to do beads and it was a bit hit, too, so it gave us an excuse to buy more beeeeeeeeeeeads!!!

He mainly likes to put them on and take them off the chenille, but I've gotten him to make some bracelets for Grammies, Grampies, and Aunties.

You just need Chenille Stems, and your favorite Pony Beads to do this craft. I used my favorite divided plates to sort the beads favorite green divided toddler plates.

You can also put a little clasp on if you would like to make it look finished.

*Warning - Supervise your toddler at all times to prevent choking.
Also, if your toddler throws things or is really clumsy, only use a few beads at a time or you will have a nightmare of a cleanup.

Oh and here are some fun beads I found on Amazon!

  4. These make such great gift ideas and keepsakes. I have a little sister and brother who make me these simple gifts and I save a bunch of them. They're fun to look back on and remember the times making them and the stories associated. :) #sitsblogging
