San Diego Zoo Mommy Group Fun

Yesterday, the little guy and I did our monthly trip to the San Diego Zoo. I'd thought I'd share a great thing they have going on for Mommy Meetup groups. If you are a member or an organizer for a Meetup.com Mommy group with your little ones, you can join their San Diego Zoo Planner Group on Meetup.com and do a guided monthly tour!

Here's how it works...

First, you need to be in a Meetup.com group.

If you are a SAHM or home even part of the time and are not in a Meetup group, you should really check it out. There are tons of groups in my area, and I organize one of them. We meet informally to do whatever we feel like doing with our babies and little kids. It is a great way for the kids and moms to make friends and get out of the house with the kids. Groups usually have dues that are paid yearly. Ours is $15. Anyone can organize a group on Meetup.com, but there are fees associated with the site. The dues are used to pay the site fees, and whatever is left over is used for crafts, parties, and other fun things.

If you organize a Meetup group, you can join the San Diego Zoo Planner Group on Meetup.com. If you are a member, and not an organizer, ask your organizer if there is enough interest to join the zoo group. They require a minimum of attendees but more than one group can join a tour to meet the minimum. I find that it is a little difficult to get everyone there that early, but we have never been turned away, even if we are a few people short.

The group gets early entrance to the zoo, but you must have a pass or a ticket. Kids under 3 are FREE! You do a guided tour, then you all sit for a story, and each child gets a sticker at the end.

This month, we did a tour of birds and Bonobos. We got to see the momma and baby Orangutan.

Here's a zoomed in shot of her and her beautiful baby.

We checked out the giraffes after we finished our tour.

I love doing these tours because you learn little bits of information about each animal, they show off all the different and little known parts of the zoo, and you get an insider perspective with little "secrets" here and there. We've learned names of animals, special vantage points, likes and dislikes of the animals, background stories, and information. I must admit, once kids(s) are in school, I'm going to miss this little treat, but for now, we try to never miss a tour by this wonderful zoo.

  4. I really need to join a meetup group. I am a SAHM and have no friends. So now my little guy who is 2 has no friends either. Good way to mingle and have fun!
