This month, we were given the opportunity to sample Lil' Beanies by Gerber and we were are happy to announce that these are our Vegan Toddler (AND Little Kid) Snack of the Month. We like to feature the newest and best snacks that please the palettes of our picky eaters and products that pass the Right On Mom label test. Gerber's Lil' Beanies have made it on the menu this month!
What makes these the Snack of the Month?
We try to be very selective about what we feed our kids and what we share with all of you. We know how important snacks are for parents with little kids who are always on the go and how ingredients, price, convenience, and of course, taste matter. We examined all of these aspects of Gerber Lil' Beanies as it hits the shelves of Walmart and other mass retailers and check out what we found!
Gerber Lil' Beanies Scoresheet:
Do the picky eaters like them? YES! The kids love them. They are crunchy, tasty, easy finger food. The 19 month old and the 4 year old were very happy to have these as a little snack. Can emptied rather quickly with 2 kids. No complaints recorded.
Are they nonGMO? Lil' beanies are NOT made with genetically modified ingredients. Woot!
Are they healthy? In my humble opinion, I say these lean toward the healthy side in the world of crunchy snack food for kids. Snack food is snack food, but these are made with navy beans as opposed to simple corn or rice which means you get a whopping 9% of the RDA of protein which is way more than most other puff-type snacks on the market. You'll also find an impressive 6% iron and 10% Vitamin E while only seeing less than 1% sugar per serving and natural flavors only.
Are the vegan? The original flavor of lil' Beanies is indeed animal product free. For my vegetarian friends, there is a broccoli cheese version. For my vegan compadres, your kids will enjoy the sea salt flavor and feel free to add some Nutritional yeast or other type of non-dairy flavor if you are looking to emulate the cheesiness however our kids liked them as is!
Are they easy to find? YES! You can find them at Walmart, or major retailers everywhere.
Are they a great value? Check out the price point at our Walmart and you be the judge! You can also find coupons on Ibotta coupon and there is sure to be coupons and great deals to come to go above and beyond the excellent retail price.
Thoughts from Mom:
It is SO nice to find a snack food on the market that is not corn, wheat, or rice based. We love all plant-based ingredients, however, beans are a much better source of protein and iron and if you can make a fun snack out of a healthier food, we are game to try it and in this case were pleased with the results!
