What to Do with Kids in Las Vegas

This is a guest post by travel writer Jayson Goetz.

You’ve always wanted to head off to Las Vegas — hair in the wind, hands gripped around the wheel of a rented purple mustang, $500 you won on a game of blackjack winking at you from the passenger seat. An opportunity has presented itself to finally go to Vegas with your friends, but what about the kids? Is it even possible to vacation in Las Vegas with a family? What do you do with kids in Vegas, the fabled city of sin? Fortunately for you, a host of family-friendly activities are available to make your family vacation to Vegas live up to all of your vacation dreams, you just need to know where to look. (You can fit a car seat and two kids in the back of that rented purple mustang, right?)

Where will your family stay?

So, how do you plan a family vacation to Las Vegas? First things first, where will your family stay? Look for kid-friendly activities, great swimming pools, and room upgrade options in whatever hotel you choose. Some resorts in Vegas even host their own children’s camps to give parents some time to explore the more adult-oriented activities of Vegas. Oyster.com features a great roundup of kid-friendly hotels that keep it PG so that what happens in Vegas, truly stays in Vegas. MGM Grand is currently offering 10% off online reservations so that your family can take advantage of their 5-acre pool without breaking the bank.

What can you do during the day with a family?

Vegas is the entertainment epicenter of the United States, and has enough activities to keep folks of all ages occupied and amazed. For the best things to do in Las Vegas, look for deals that accommodate all ages at a smashing price. (Ahem, that “Things To Do With Kids” section definitely has your name on it.) Everything from speed-race4r bumper cars to white-water parks, there are plenty of family inclusive attractions and entertainment.

Work-while-they-play if you need to work, and they need to play

Las Vegas is known for its adult entertainment, extravagant live shows and concerts, night clubs and casinos, and five-star dining experiences. But it’s not a city without some awareness that often, visitors arrive on business with a family in tow (business expenses, anyone?). If you or your partner need a break from the flashing lights to get some work done but you’re worried about the kiddos, check out Fidget’s Indoor Playground, where kids are welcome to run around and immerse themselves while parents are encouraged to enjoy their ample couch space and free Wi-Fi for the teenagers in the family.

Take the family to a show!

For an activity that the whole family will enjoy together, look no further than Xavier Mortimer’s “Magical Dream” at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, which promises an “experience with a strong sense of wonder and drama,” where folks of all ages will revel in the magic together. The show is running through June 1, and tickets can be purchased here or on Groupon as well. Who knows, the magic of Mortimer might just make a magical new family memory that everyone will cherish for years to come. Or, it will be a chance to distract the children with family-friendly wonderment while you finally have a chance to drink a much-deserved cocktail. Either way, everyone wins.

End the trip a hero

Before you leave, why not bring your kids into the world of some of their favorite super heroes and become their hero in the process? Learn what it takes to become one of the famed Avengers at Station Attraction, an interactive entertainment expo that will take you and your family on a wild mission to become your own superhero and save the planet! That is, if you have what it takes to tangle with the supervillains. On display is an extensive range of Avengers operational equipment such as Captain America’s uniform and shield, Bruce Banner’s laboratory, Vision’s birth cradle, Hawkeye and Black Widow uniforms and weapons, and Iron Man’s MK 45 suit and The Hulkbuster suit. Saving the world takes a lot of energy. Get the deal here and rest easy knowing that on the flight home, your kids will sleep soundly and you’ll know for sure you’ve saved the day.
