Organic House Salute - Vegan Food in Kyoto

Organic House Salute is an all vegan restaurant in Kyoto which is a little bit hidden but it is worth trying to find. They have beautiful Japanese style set meals as well as sandwiches, salad, quiche, and even vegan cheese. It is just 5 minutes away from Kyoto Station and right around the corner from Kyoto Tower on a residential street. If you follow my photos below, you can find it.

The Organic House Salute has a small little hallway entryway, where you remove your shoes and head up a few steps to the dining area to be seated. I questioned whether we were actually inside a restaraunt and not just walking into someone's living room. The menu is handwritten and there is very little English but we were able to figure out how to order a little bit of everything for lunch with the very small pictures they offered and fingers crossed.

We tried their lunch set, their curry, a small sandwich, a salad which had delicious vegan cheese on it, and a vegan quiche that was so pretty it looked like dessert.

The fried chicken pieces with panko coating and an avocado sauce on top was a crowd pleaser. I enjoyed all the different pickled veggies, salad, rice and soup.

The vegan cheese and dressing on this salad were amazing. Some of the best vegan cheeses I've had in my life have been in Japan! I think it must be a soy cheese. It definitely has a different flavor than some of the nut cheeses or oil-based ones I've tried. I have not found an equivalent in the States and want to start researching how to make my own. It is THAT good. Smooth, creamy, with that great cheesy flavor...

I think they may also have a cheese platter but I was not sure if that is what my salad was or if there was a separate dish and my Japanese communication skills are beginner level at best. I would look into it if you speak Japanese or have a good translator. It is yummy.

The curry was also very good! I am now a fan of Japanese curry and have set my goals to make one myself.

We also had wine, beer and sake which made for a nice break after morning sightseeing with the kids.

Speaking of kids, this place had a bunch of books and small little kids chairs at our table where we were seated seiza-style on the floor assuring us that children were indeed welcome patrons.

The kids really enjoyed the quiche here even though they found out it wasn't dessert. Had there been more cheese on the table, they would have probably liked that too.

Doesn't it look beautiful? I'm going to have to try this trick on my kid at home.

I actually had a few different vegan quiches in Kyoto and really love this idea for my American kids. It is a very savory pie made with potatoes, beets, and other root veggies with great flavors cooked into a crumbly crust.

Even a nice little crispy sandwich on a bun with veggies and sauce was available! Everything was excellent. I highly recommend tracking this place down.

I admit, this may not be the most beautiful of locations but they truly come through in the quality of the vegan food for those that want to try some Japanese food but don't want any animal products in their meal.

Organic House Salute Kyoto Menu

As you can see, the menu is in almost all Japanese. What makes it even more difficult is that it is handwritten and translator apps will not read it. There are some pictures to give you an idea of what you are getting.

Cute little spot with books for kids.

How to FIND Organic House Salute in Kyoto.

This was not the easiest place to find. Then when we did find it, I was still unsure if I should just walk in or knock first. We walked in and glad we did!
