Veg Out - Vegan Food in Kyoto

Veg Out is the only restaurant we visited twice in Kyoto. It is also one of the only vegan restaurants that I know of that serves breakfast. The restaurant is light and airy with live plants, natural decor, and a lovely view of the canal. It is near some of the nice temples so that you could easily plan on stopping here for lunch.

Veg out has limited seating and they recommend a reservation but not speaking Japanese, we took our chances and got lucky to be able to sit down as a family of four both times and order everything on the menu.

There's a full case of cookies, muffins, and baked goods you can buy to-go and they have a handwritten menu with a set meals based on fresh foods available each day.

The second time we visited they were out of the large set platter but I was able to get a plate with a really great quiche, miso soup, pasta, salad, potatoes etc. Their quiche is absolutely delicious!

The food was all presented really beautifully and tasted as good as it looked. This is a truly special place to eat and we appreciated the healthy vegan food very much after all the sightseeing we did on our trip.

My husband loved their Buddha bowl with the falafel balls and white sauce.

Kid-Friendliness

This place was very kid-friendly in the fact that it had muffins and other baked goods which I recommend. My children loved the muffins!

Every food on this platter was tasty and perfectly seasoned, pickled, or fried.
