Breathe Like a Bear Book Review

If you are looking for a book to calm your little kids and teach mindfulness, we just received a complimentary copy of the book, Breather Like a Bear by Kira Willey and Illustrated by Anni Betts and we love it.

Breathe Like a bear is not your typical storybook. It is a collection of 30 mindfulness exercises that are easy and fun for little kids. They are divided up into categories of be calm, focus, imagine, make some energy, and relax and then each section has a handful of related story-like visualizations that can be enjoyed one after another or on their own.

The illustrations in this book are all really pretty, mellow colors, like, lavender, aqua, and green with cute animals. A lot of the meditations feature the animals like Kitty Cat Stretch and Bear Breath.

We read books every night with the kids and we have incorporated 1-3 of these exercises here and there and they love it. Our son really loves doing breathing exercises, meditation, and yoga and this makes it so easy while keeping things interesting. There are breathing focused exercises and those that they can use their imagination, certain senses, and even their muscles and bodies to calm down, focus, and relax.

Even my husband likes sitting in on this bedtime book as I tend to read each story in a soothing voice and add to the story on my own with some repetition of the breathing because it helps everyone relax. He and my son actually fall asleep!

The idea is that the short exercises in this book could be easily recalled after reading a few times, and used as a tool as needed. As someone who has had to soothe my son back to sleep with an earache throughout the night in a hotel in Tokyo, these tools can be powerful.

So if you would like a book to add to your child's collection or as a gift,
