When Fur and Feather Get Together by David Margrave and Illustrated by Kim Wyly - complimentary copy |
A boy and his dad on sit on top of a hill and the dad explains with rhythm and rhyme, that a group of owls is called a parliament, lions are called a pride and so on.
We enjoyed the book for several reasons. There is the educational and vocabulary value where even a grown-up may learn new animal group names. Unicorns are called a blessing was news to me! It is fun and fast read that will be easy for my older child to breeze through on his own.
I also really like that this book illustrates how animals have close and connected relationships with others just like we do. This concept is presented in a cute and catchy way to help foster respect and empathy for each other and animals as well as the importance of family to us.
Just a note, I will mention that the book rhymes 'pod' with 'creatures of God' for those that may enjoy or be sensitive to religious references in children's books, as we don't endorse any religion on this blog.
This is a nice book for kids to learn fun facts about animals and a great add to an animal lover's or vegan kid's book collection.
