San Elijo Lagoon - Not So Scary Estuary Halloween Event 2014

We LOVE going to the Family Days at the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy here in Cardiff, CA. This is the the most beautiful nature center with lovely trails that go along the lagoon. They host events there for children that are so much fun! One of our favorites is the Not So Scary Estuary Halloween event and it is FREE!

This is the first time our little guy got to wear the costume I made for him. He is "Hookfang" from "How to Train Your Dragon." The costume was his idea and there wasn't one for sale. I'm pretty crafty, so I made it happen and he was thrilled!

I felt like there was so much more I could have done to the costume to make it even more authentic, but we were good enough to go, for now...

His favorite part was the wings that he could "fly" with!

The event is hosted in and around their beautiful Nature Center.

There are treat stations that all have some kind of visual educational materials, Park Rangers, nature experts, wildlife, crafts, and of course, treats!

Out of all the theme parks and Halloween events in the area, I honestly think this is my favorite because of the employees and volunteers teaching and engaging the kids.

There are so many things to see and learn, it is best to arrive right at the beginning of the event if you want to do everything.

They had one area of the trail where they hide all the taxidermy animals to try and spot. The first one totally fooled me because they had audio too!

It really is so pretty just to be outside, here!

Then, after all the educational, craft, and treat stations, we went into the Nature Center for some crafts.

Both crafts were SO cute and clever!

It is very popular with the kiddos.

There really is SO much to see and do here. There are a lot of pictures on our other camera of live owls, spiders, crafts (the kids even made their own treat bags and lollipop spiders), and the costume contest, but I haven't gotten a chance to go through all of those, yet.

They also had fresh apples and bananas to eat and gave away small pumpkins to the little kids. We always remember to leave a cash donation when we go to one of the amazing events here because we appreciate it so much!

They also do an Easter event that we will definitely be attending next year because it is just as awesome as this one. We highly recommend that all the locals in the area take their kids age 2-12 to this event and plan on spending a beautiful afternoon enjoying nature and learning about wildlife in their own backyard. We'll be back next year!

However, the costume and Halloween partying has just begun for this crew! LEGOLAND Brick or Treat, Trick-or-Treating, and a Halloween party where we are going to make one of our cute veggie platters are all coming up, so keep checking in on us if you want to see how all that goes!
