Easy, No Sugar, Vegan Waffles in my Cuisinart Griddler

I got this amazing Cuisinart Griddle/Panini press with optional waffle iron plates from my parents for Christmas, so in the back of my mind, I knew I was going to have to get down to working on the perfect vegan waffle recipe. I had no idea it would be so easy! I found this super simple recipe on VegWeb.com and decided to give it a try, yesterday.

Of course I had to add my own (healthy) spin on the recipe by swapping half the white flour for whole wheat pastry flour, but otherwise, the original recipe remained in tact.

First, my son tried his and said it was delicious, but he's three, so what does he know?! Well, his tastes and food sensory issues are right in line with my husband's so I was just happy to not get a gag reflex (it happens).

Then, my husband said he LOVED them. I swear I thought he was joking at first because he is VERY picky about food. Nope. No joke. He said they were delicious. I made them for two breakfasts in a row, now, and for lunch on the second day, too!
Makes 3 waffles.

What you need:
1 cup white flour
1 cup whole wheat flourr
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cup almond milk
2-3 apples (peeled, cored, and blended with water to make applesauce) or 1 cup applesauce

What you do:
First, you mix the flours, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.

Then you mix in the milk and the applesauce. If your applesauce got a little watery trying to blend it fully, just pull back on the milk.

Spray waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray.

Cook 1 cup of the batter in a waffle iron until golden brown.

Enjoy!

Here's the Cuisinart Griddler I use to make these gorgeous pancakes:

The Cuisinart GR-4N 5-in-1 Griddler is really amazing!

You need the Cuisinart GR-WAFP Griddler Waffle Plates if you want to make the waffles. The Griddler doesn't come with it.

I highly recommend it!

  1. Your waffles look perfect! I have never tried making my own waffles, vegan or not, but yours turned out amazing. Apparently they taste good too if they got your husband's seal of approval. My boyfriend is super picky with his food as well! I would love that Cuisinart Griddler too!

  3. I have never made waffles like the ones above. I used to work when my kids were in school - so I popped frozen waffles in the microwave or toaster. On weekends, it was everyone for themselves or out to breakfast. That wasn't that much talk or recipes about vegan foods. I would definitely buy this as a gift for someone else, but as for my husband & myself, I would rarely use it. We don't cook like we used to.
